4. Academic Achievement

Dr. Li’s primary research area is the theories and practical applications of soil and rock mechanics, with focus on constitutive behaviors and microstructures of frozen soils, and thermal-hydraulic-mechanical (THM) coupled processes. Li has been awarded two projects by Chinese National Natural Science Foundations and finished many industry projects. Dr. Li has published 30+ peer-reviewed papers in national and international journals.

Principal Investigator (PI) in two Chinese NSF projects: 

(1)   Freezing mechanism of ultra-low temperature frozen soil under high-speed seepage of underground sea water, 2018-2021

(2)   Augmentation mechanism of heat absorption capacity for freezing apparatus in western coal mine shaft and optimized distribution of cold energy, 2013-2018

Co-PI in four industry projects:

(1)   Test method of water migration in frozen soil and mechanism of frost and thaw damage of improved soils, 2021-2024

(2)   Freezing and thawing degradation mechanism of Mesozoic water-rich coal-bearing series strata in coalmine shaft constructed by artificial freezing technology in western region and seepage damage prevention, 2015-2018

(3)   Stability mechanism of coal mine shaft constructed by artificial freezing technology in deep water-rich weak stratum and energy saving, 2013-2016

(4)   Research of meso- and macro-scopic mechanical behaviors for underground engineering artificial-freezing soils and stability control under hydro-heat-mechanical coupled processes, 2010-2012
